Fundamental changes of a global nature require new forms of cooperation and dialogue between states. The BRICS group was created as a format for interaction between the most dynamically growing large economies, but gradually transformed into an association of states based on a common or similar vision of the nature of the core international processes, problems and development challenges. The purpose of the session is to closely and comprehensively discuss the potential for dialogue between BRICS and Southeast Asian states, the likely practical results and areas of interaction in the global economy and politics.

14:00 – 15:30 Session 2: De-dollarization and Financial Diversification Towards Greater Economic Sovereignty (live: Russian, English)
De-dollarization and achieving financial independence are some of the responses of the world’s countries to the challenges brought by the globalization crisis, unilateral sanctions and trade wars. Now these instruments are not considered in the context of confrontation between individual countries or groups, but as a tool for maintaining general market openness, freedom of trade, investment and technological exchange. The purpose of the session is a professional expert discussion on the key issues related to the formation of a new financial architecture of the world and the role of cooperation between Russia and Southeast Asian countries in this process.
16:00 – 17:30 Session 3: The Future of ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership (live: Russian, English)
Relations between Russia and ASEAN exemplify a dynamic dialogue, whose goals, objectives and achievements are determined by the national development goals of the member states, as well as the high dynamics of interstate cooperation achieved within ASEAN over the past decades. As a dialogue partner, ASEAN-Russia relations can be elevated further, expanding trade and increasing the level of mutual trust. The purpose of the session is to discuss the key directions and achievements of the ASEAN-Russia dialogue, to identify difficulties and new opportunities regarding the structural changes that the world economy and politics are currently experiencing.

This session aims to discuss the major challenges facing ASEAN in the context of how international politics and the security situation in Asia are evolving
11:00 – 12:30 Session 5: Russia’s Pivot to Asia: Balancing Major Power Influence and Aligning With Regional Powers
Russia’s unique role in Asia is driven by the fact that its political ties in this region are aimed not at competition with major powers, but at improving the quality of economic and political. In this regard, the main purpose of the session is for Russian and regional specialists to discuss the primary challenges and problems that Asia encounters, the potential for strengthening interaction between Asian countries and Russia itself, as well as preserving and improving regional cooperation institutions.

The Valdai Discussion Club was established in 2004. It is named after Lake Valdai, which is located close to Veliky Novgorod, where the Club’s first meeting took place.
